Reporting a problem
Four things make a report solvable in one round trip:
- The Spake version and build, from the About window.
- Your macOS version and whether the Mac is Apple silicon.
- What you did, step by step, and what happened instead.
- Whether it happens every time or once.
Please do not send a recording, a transcript, or a screenshot of a real note. If a specific note is involved, describe it — length, language, whether it was an area recording — or make a throwaway note that reproduces the problem.
Spake is listed in Screen Recording but still not allowed
macOS sometimes keeps a stale permission record after an app is replaced, moved, or updated: Spake appears in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording with its switch on, and capture still fails. Two fixes, in order:
- Quit Spake. In that settings pane, switch Spake off, then on again. Reopen Spake. This re-registers the grant against the current copy of the app and is enough most of the time.
- If it is not, reset the permission outright and grant it again from a clean state. Quit Spake, run the command below in Terminal, then open Spake and allow the prompt.
tccutil reset ScreenCapture app.spake.desktopKeep one copy of Spake.app, in /Applications. Two copies in different folders are the usual cause: macOS ties the grant to a specific bundle on disk, so the copy you launched may not be the one that was allowed.
Where are my notes?
In the library folder you picked, one directory per note. Each directory holds the Markdown you can edit, a JSON file with the transcript and word timings, the WAV, the MP4, and a WebVTT caption sidecar. Move them, back them up, or open them with anything. Nothing is in a private database, so a note survives Spake.

Reporting a security issue
Please report vulnerabilities privately to security@spake.app rather than in a public issue, and give us a chance to ship a fix before disclosing. Describe the issue and how to reproduce it; do not attach a recording, a transcript, or credentials.
